Unit for Computerized Learning

The Unit for Computerized Learning was established in August 2000 under the Office of the Rector, to encourage the improvement of academic instruction, through the integration of computer technologies and innovative tools.

Today, the unit is responsible for promoting teaching and e-learning at the University of Haifa and offers within this field a range of tools and services to the community of lecturers and students.

In addition, for several years now, the unit has been producing video content at the university for academic purposes.

The support system of the unit is based on personal instruction provided face-to-face, by phone or email, at the most appropriate time for faculty members: Sunday-Thursday 8:30-19:30.

In addition, the unit operates an online support system that includes guides and short instructional videos.

The Unit’s services include assisting with building course websites, developing fully online courses, developing MOOC courses, developing courses from ICT stages, classroom recordings, live broadcasts and conference calls, online exams, developing tutorials, and more.

The unit staff instructs and supports the academic staff in all stages of the development of the various types of course sites: courses which meet full time in a classroom, partially online courses, and fully online. The work of the Unit in developing these course sites allows for the building of a learning community, self-learning and guided learning in individuals and groups.

ICT activity at the University of Haifa has been growing all the time. To date, the unit has developed over 140 fully electronic asynchronous courses from various fields of knowledge, most of them according to a unique model developed in the unit.

About 12,000 enrollees study in these courses each year.

The unit’s offices are located in the southern wing of the library in rooms 144 and 145, the Unit’s video studio is located on the 500th floor of the Main Building and the 606th conference conference studio in the Main Building.
