Curving a Grade: Multiplicator and Offset

Multiplicator is a factor by which all grades for a graded item will be multiplied.

Offset is a factor that will be added to all grades for a grade item.

Grades can be modified to suit a specific purpose or need.  Sometimes after a test is taken by students it is discovered that a question was not good, leading most students to get the answer wrong. In this situation you might not want to count that question in the final score. You can create an offset score to counter-balance the grade calculation.

  1. Enter the course.
  2. On the left side of the screen click on the “Grades” button.
    (If you don’t see it, click the hamburger menu (three lines) and the administration menu will appear).
  3. Choose the Grade Setup Page
  4. Locate the item that you want to modify and click the “Edit” cog.
  5. Click “Show more …” to receive the following options and enter the “Multiplicator” or “Offset”
  6. Save the Changes
